Capt. Curtiss Cash is a self proclaimed “fish head!” He has been fishing all of his life on the Texas coast from 6 inches to 600 fathoms. Having grown up near the mid-coast, his passion for fishing was cultivated from a young age while fishing with friends and family. This passion has prompted him to become an astute pupil of the marine environment: studying tides, weather patterns, lunar phases, water temperature and, of course the fish, and their reaction to these changes. If he isn’t on the water moving with the tide, you can be sure he’s busy doing something to do with fishing.
The captain follows all rules and regulations set forth by the United States Coast Guard and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for safety, licensing and has obtained a 50-ton Masters Certification from the U.S.C.G. (#1192434).
“Planning, patience and versatility are my key ingredients to guiding,” says the captain on his fishing philosophy. Knowing how to adjust each day to his clients, and the ever-changing conditions is the formula for a successful trip. In addition to tackle mechanics, the captain will instruct you on the fine detail of lure presentation. Many times that certain twitch or proper lure speed is the critical factor that draws the strike. Catch and release is promoted on the larger gamefish and sharks, but realistic retention of your catch for some good meals is welcome. Whether expert or beginner, the captain will not only put an angler in the best possible position to get shots at fish, but also makes sure that every trip is a non-pressured, pleasurable day on the water.
“I began guiding to provide the smiles catching fish puts on peoples faces. I especially enjoy the look of awe they get when line is burning off a reel. Not only is saltwater angling my business and obsession, it is my life. I eat, sleep and breathe this stuff! I take great pride in my ability to put clients on fish and 2012 will be my tenth season sharing my passion with clients … I can’t think of anything else I would rather be doing.” the captain said.
